Crafting Perfection in Tradition

Matt's journey into butchery began straight from school when he joined a small, family-run local abattoir. It was there that he learnt the trade from the ground up, gaining hands-on experience in every aspect of traditional butchery. Working in a business where animal welfare was at the heart of everything they did gave him a strong set of values that still shape the way he works today.

After developing his butchery skills, Matt moved into farming, joining a local buffalo farm where he worked with both the buffalo herd and the farm's poultry. This gave him invaluable experience in livestock management and a deeper understanding of the journey from farm to food.

His love of the countryside then led him into gamekeeping, where he discovered a real passion for wild game, conservation and sustainable food. During this time, Barney and later Sako, his two hardworking Cocker Spaniels, joined the team and quickly became trusted companions in the field.

Matt later returned to the buffalo farm, this time as Assistant Farm Manager, overseeing the day-to-day running of the farm while continuing to build on his knowledge of livestock production and animal husbandry.

Over two years ago, Matt left the buffalo farm to take the leap into M L Meat Services. He initially worked on a contracting basis while building up his private client base, and over the past year has expanded into sourcing and supplying high-quality meat and game directly to the public.

Today, M L Meat Services combines years of practical experience in butchery, farming and gamekeeping to provide a professional, personal service. Whether processing wild game, preparing livestock or producing quality cuts of meat, Matt takes pride in treating every animal with respect, minimising waste and delivering products of the highest standard.
